![]() Parents are responsible for children at all times. Built in 1989, M/V Ortelius was designed as a special-purpose vessel for the Russian Academy of Science. There is no minimum age for guests however there are no facilities onboard to entertain young people, so parents will need to bring these. A former scientific-research vessel, the Ortelius offers the classic small ship experience. Most of your time will be spent on foot exploring the Arctic wilderness and transfers from vessels to shore are done in Zodiacs. The ship has plenty of open-deck spaces as well as a large bridge. Cabins range from quadruple and triple cabins with portholes and both upper and lower berths, to twin porthole, window and deluxe cabins with lower berths only up to superior cabins which feature a double bed. M/V Ortelius is strong enough to navigate to the toughest parts of the north in search of polar bears and other Arctic wildlife and the south for some of the most pristine landscapes and abundant Antarctic wildlife. The comfortable M/V Ortelius accommodates up to 116 passengers. The highly experience crew are comprised of 15 international catering staff, 34 Russian nautical crew, 6 expedition staff and a doctor. M/V Ortelius is equipped with 11 zodiacs, 2 of these are saved as reserves, and the excursions are smoothly operated. You will also find 2 restaurants, a bar/lecture room and a sauna to warm your cockles after a day out in the Arctic wilderness. At only 116 passengers and 53 cabins, she assures a flexible polar experience with maximum wildlife opportunities. ![]() There is a large observation deck so you can make the most of and absorb your surroundings whilst onboard. The M/V Ortelius is an ice-strengthened small ship designed for polar expedition cruises in the Arctic and Antarctica.
